WebCar makes Clicking noise when letting off the gas – why? There are essentially 2 causes of the clicking noise you hear when you take your foot off the accelerator. The first one can be a problem with the differential inside the transmission. It might have worn out to a great extent. Another is that the bearings might be causing the clicking sound. Web24 Aug 2007 · I think when you lift your foot off the gas the transmission is anticipating that you may be going down hill or coming to a stop and is slightly downshifting in anticipation, giving you additional engine braking.
