WebRe: Boheme, Puccini is a master of orchestration, as well as of melody. Maybe it’s sappy, but I love the story and the sweet, un-ironic way the characters interact. The score, to my ears, is beautiful all the way through. I’m a sucker for tunes, and this opera is gorgeously tuneful. The “coat aria” is one of my favorites in all of opera. WebThe story, a sweetly tragic romance between seamstress Mimí and poet Rodolfo in 1830s Paris, was based on the episodic novel Scenes of Bohemian Life (1847–49) by French author Henri Murger. A success from the beginning, La Bohème is one of the most frequently performed of all operas.
